Dog and Puppy Training

Many dog owners have approached me for help because what they and their dogs have been taught through conventional methods just hasn't worked for them in normal everyday situations - whether at home or outside.

‘Conventional' trainingis usually performed inside, where dogs are expected to obey every command given them regardless of how they feel, existing circumstances, etc.  This approach was designed originally for competition purposes where all exercises tend to begin and end with 'sit'. Real life just isn’t like that., is it?

In my view ‘education’  is the way forward, for dogs and owners alike. Dogs, just like children, need to know where they stand if they are to feel confident and at ease with what is going on around them. Boundaries need to be set and must be fair to the dog as well as to you.  They must be put together properly and sensitively and maintained consistently from then on.  Only then can any degree of success be achieved.

The purpose of training a dog is not so that he can eventually take responsibility for his own actions (dogs are unable to make such decisions and it is both unfair and unrealistic to expect them to do so.)  Far better  to enable him to feel relaxed and confident  in himself and with you and to know how to respond to your methods of dealing with everyday situations as they arise.
